How to fix VW crafter ECU EDC16C34 locked with KTAG?

Malfunction: VW crafter ECU locked accidentally, ECU type: I believe it's an EDC16C34

Problem description:

The crafter needed its dpf and egr de-activating so using kess v2 i read the ecu file (all went fine). Using a program called "ecu safe" i de activated the dpf+egr then wrote the new file back to the vans ecu (all fine and van running perfect).

Now to the problem, the crafter needs a 62mph limit by law and it seems i had somehow removed this with the new file. I have re written the file with unchecking the Vlimit removal, saved the file and tried to write this to the ecu but it fails every time saying "wrong security code". The kess software will no longer work, ID-READING-WRITING-RECOVER all these give the same error. Looking back at ecu safe there is a check box marked "protection", did i accidently leave this box checked, could this be why i cant access the ecu?

Attach the original file (from @ neilmch) here:

https://mega.nz/file/ldBnRQ6D#6SJ8sq_42OOL4dQz9dyYnQQTI8MpwcvlfSF5YdR4i7M

crafter reading 1 - file saved when Kess read ecu

crafter read - text file that was created (cant remember if it was when read)

crafdpf+egr - this is the file i wrote to the ecu.

The crafter is a 2.5l diesel, BJL engine code and i think the ecu is bosch EDC16CP34.

The Kess protocol was 73.

@ peechie replied:

You need to open the ECU and attach the BDM adaptor (Bosch) to your ecu as pictured. You need to buy KTAG ECU programmer and the adaptors. You don't need to lift the PCB. The BDM pads are on the lower part on the top side.

It is an easy job but it might be better if you take the ecu to someone who can bench it and ask them to write a BDM original to it.

ktag

Hope it helps!

Thanks again to @ neilmch and @ peechie.

(Solved) KTAG 7.020 Ksuite V2.25 does not work

Customer Problem:

Hi, I install the Ktag V2.25 software but the menu is all gray and I can't select a car.

I have tried to reinstall it and the result is the same.

I have also tried to install it on another PC and the failure is the same.

I think that for some reason the ktag has stopped working. It appears in the Windows device manager but does not communicate with the ksuite software.

ktag-error-01

OBD2shop.co.uk engineer solution:

About the gray menu, it is the TF card problem, please take out the TF card and insert it again, check if it can work.

The customer's response:

The software can be selected but still does not work.

"Well, no luck. I have tested with 2 ECUs of Honda Accord 2.2 i-dtec and it does not work with any.

I attach photos with the screenshots.

After a while in which it does not go beyond "identifying ECU" the error in the photo appears."

Below is the ECU wiring diagram:

OBD2shop.co.uk engineer solution:

Please see the attached image.

Branch this red wire out another wire and connect it to the place of the orange wire.

ktag-error-07

The customer's response:

Well it works. It seems incredible to me that following the instructions of the software it does not work and that in the other ktag that we have it works perfectly with the orange cable and that in this it is necessary to put the 3 red cables.

But hey, I'm happy because in the end it has made it work.

Thank you very much.

Iprog read MC68HC705B32 (UCH) possible and how?

How to read MC68HC705B32 (UCH) on the Megane in circuit with Iprog programmer?

the diagram that the iprog says it is to read the processor, but the cable from pins 1, 5 and 40 has no connection and as the wire cores are not like the diagram.

iprog-read-mc68hc705b32-uch-01

iprog-read-mc68hc705b32-uch-02

Get a multimeter and test what colour wire goes to each pin on adapter then write it down

then you will see what colours corispond to the colours you need if there then found to not be connected to the pins you need then get a soldering iron and move the wires to the correct pins

if you cant solder then get someone who can to do it for you.

HW V5.017 SW V2.53 KESS V2 Wake Up Error Solution

Offer the working solution to HW V5.017 SW V2.53 KESS V2 Wake Up Error.

hw-v5.017-sw-v2.53-kess-v2-wak-up-error-solution-01

Possible reason and solution:

It may be a gasoline car, and the customer chooses a diesel car.

please check the connection with ECU and power supply. And also try to uninstall the software and install it again.

If all is ok and still same error, please try rearranging the sd (TF)card in slot. I got resoldered the main components on the pcb and it worked ok. The issues with this cloned kess are few(bad contacts, need to rewrite the content of sd card or need a rework ect). Good luck!

Good to know: To order the new KESS sd card, please feel free contact at email sales@obd2shop.co.uk

How to fix XPROG can't read MC9S12DG secured?

Question: XPROG (both V5.5 and China clone 6.12) don't read all bytes. It reads only unsecured bytes (pages). I try Windows 7 32 and 64, and Windows XP. The insecurity zone is only FF.

I think that problem is not in the ECU and connection, but in XPROG and MC9S12 secured MCU, because I read this MCU with VVDI prog without problems.

Post connection and ECU number Or Photo:

fixed-xprog-cannot-read-mc9s12dg-secured-01

fixed-xprog-cannot-read-mc9s12dg-secured-02

Good to know:

Advice: I think the data read by Xprog are OK, sitting at the right memory blocks but the final file size is much bigger than VVDI.

For example, MC9S12DG256, Flash file has 2 MB of reading by xprog while just 256 if read via VVDI. Someone already compared these two data outputs, please?

+ 1:

I did once. The size difference is because the Xprog reads the MCU like it was designed by factory. In the window where You choose the MCU family to program, You will see in info, that there are some addresses, that are excluded from memory.

VVDI Pro and Rosfar read only the memory containing DATA, Xprog reads whole, as well as the blank (FF) spaces between data fragments.

In Xprog ori software there is a button "Editor Tools" There is an option to convert the files. You can convert the 2MB file to the 256/521 and program with VVDI or Rosfar (it just deletes the FF from blank areas) and vice versa, there is an option to automatically add the blank spaces, and then program file from Rosfar or VVDI by Xprog.

Read & Write EDC16C35 with kess, ktag, mpps, Galletto clone etc

EDC16C35 ECU reading and writing tools review:  kess, ktag, mpps, Galletto clone etc.

Review 1. Kess v2 5.017 with red pcb

1). Read E60 530d EDC16CP35 with Kess v2 5.017

Choose by Kline ==> Setup ==> Pull Up ==> 225ohm

takes longer to R/W but does it

2). Read/write Bosch EDC16C35 with kess v2 5.017 clone no problem.

3) Some of the clones works perfect some don't work don't know I got friend he bought kessv2 clone red and its not r/w some ecu he got problems

in my opinion kess 4.03 is best I never got problem with red 5.017 I got on some cars.

4) In bmw cars always good power supply to battery 13.5-14v and never problem to this cars

edc16c31,c35 and cp35 all going good over obd and with kess or mpps.

today I tried it out, connect a good Battery Charger my Battery was at 13.1V and first Full read with Kess and than Write with kess.

Read 34 Minutes

Write 5-7 Minutes

Usw K-Line on E92 335D and in Options you have tu usw 225 OHM write speed.

Review 2. ktag via BDM

For EDC16C31 and EDC16CP35 I would done backup via ktag first.

you also can write with ktag via bdm... works fine at both.

Review3. with MPPS

- I Read/write Bosch EDC16C35 by MPPS and read/write by kess always no problem ... checksum correction OK.

- My car is BMW e60 530xd with same ecu as yours, and read it with mpps v16. Never write it yet.

I think the kess is much better from mpps and you may not have a problem with it.

Review 4. Galletto clone works very good with this ecu via obd.
